Job Description

As a Software Engineer on the advanced development team for our CSS (Connected & Sharing Solution) division, you will be responsible for investigating future product concepts in the areas of automotive navigation, connected vehicle services, and mobility services unique to the North American market. You will utilize your passion for technology & creativity to create proof of concepts for next generation services utilized by connected vehicles and mobility services.

Position Responsibilities

The Jr. Software Engineer is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:

  • Work closely with teammates to rapidly develop cutting edge proof of concepts.
  • Propose and create new product concepts in areas such as: AR (augmented reality) navigation, vehicle data utilization for MaaS (Mobility as a Service), UX, ride sharing services, etc.
  • Work with teammates to identify, estimate, plan and implement work required to develop new connected services.
  • Participate in various activities and projects aimed to improve AW's navigation services.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and possess a valid driver's license for vehicle test driving.
  • Self-starter with at least 5 years of software development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to program in C/C++ or Java and learn new languages that may be required to create proof of concepts.
  • Ability to research new technologies/domains and use newly acquired knowledge to implement cutting edge proof of concepts.
  • Experience developing software in various environments (Linux/Unix, Windows, iOS, Android), especially cloud computing.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative cross cultural environment and help build a top-tier organization.
  • Excellent communication skills

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with AWS.
  • Experience working with big data.
  • Experience with GUI/Frontend development.
  • Experience working closely with outsource partners.
  • Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM organization.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Fluency with Japanese language.

Work Environment Requirements

  • Must be able to operate a personal computer, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Must perform job duties onsite, except those duties that are customarily or by their nature performed offsite (for example, offsite customer visits).
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast paced environment where constructive criticism is encouraged.

Attendance/Work Hour Requirements

  • Must maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  • Must be willing and available to work such weekends and holidays as necessary and desirable to meet business needs.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be necessary to local client site or industry trade shows to present product concepts.
  • Must be willing and available to travel to such locations and with such frequency as is necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
